In Europe, Islam is especially present in the immigrants who have come to England from Pakistan, to Spain from Morocco, to France from Algeria, and to Germany and Scandinavia from Turkey. Many of these immigrants are now raising families whose children no longer feel a connection with their parents’ country but who remain Muslim. The blend of cultures should be considered. In the United States, Muslims are both immigrants and converts. How will American and European culture change the traditional values of Islamic families? Will Islam influence Western society as well? It would be helpful to invite a Muslim—either from among the students or from outside—to speak about these questions.
