You are working as an Annual Fund Director for ABC University.

  1. You are working as an Annual Fund Director for ABC University. ABCU has a robust annual fund program utilizing special events, direct mail, personal phone calls by students and a host of other programs. One of the biggest events of the year is the annual golf fundraising event.
  2. This event is expensive. In additional to the course rental fee for the day ($100 per participant), golfers are fed a box lunch ($20 per participant) and a steak dinner ($50 per participant) at the end of the round. Most of the prizes are donated by businesses that support ABCU, so this helps to keep costs down some. The food tent costs another $1500 to rent for the day, and the sound system is $250.
  3. There is a live auction at the conclusion of the event, selling donated prizes, which usually nets $75,000, and there is a silent auction that nets another $15,000 in good years. Golfers pay a registration fee of $50 person or $175 for a foursome.
  4. The entire fundraising team of ten people is expected to spend the entire day at the event. Their average salary is $50,000. The President of ABCU and all of the Vice Presidents are expected to participate in the event. The average salary of senior leader is $115,000. Finally, about 115 golfers usually participate in the event. And, of course, hours of work are necessary to prepare for an event such as this one.
  5. Compose a 750 – 1250 word narrative that argues for the importance of carefully evaluating the annual golf fundraising event.  Include an analysis following the information in your textbook about fixed costs, variable costs, program costs and reasonable, established financial guidelines for events such as this one.Include your name.
  6. Begin with an introductory paragraph summarizing the golf event and your analysis of it. (1 paragraph)
  7. Identify and discuss the three (3) cost analysis concepts discussed in your text that apply to the ABCU golf fundraiser. To develop an informed approach, include references to the text to support your statements in each paragraph. Feel free to use outside sources as well. (3 paragraphs). Also, refer to the text or other resources for guidelines for reasonable costs for an event such as this one.
  8. End with a conclusion that sets forth your evaluation of the fundraising event. Be sure to include both a financial analysis as well as an analysis of the intangibles of the event such as generating goodwill from potential donors(1-2 paragraphs).
  9. When you have completed your assignment, save a copy for yourself and submit a copy to your instructor using the Dropbox by the end of the workshop.
