exercise with Normal Distribution.

Week 10

Another exercise with Normal Distribution.

Finding z-score and x-value that separates top 10%,

15% or 20% results from others in Normal Distribution.

See my examples posted in DB-9.

Use numbers assigned for you in the following table:

2215 DB-10(1).pdf

You will also need

Appendix Table for Normal Distribution. Attached below

Let's practice with another case related to the Normal distribution. Consider the following situation. All applicants for a job in X-Company should take a test. To be invited for an interview your score on the test should be on the top P percent of all applicants. Results of the test have Normal Distribution with the mean M and Standard Deviation SD. Take values M, SD and P assigned for you in the table below.

You should use one line in the table that has the number of your position on the class roster. The class roster is posted in Discussion Forum ‘Class Roster’. If you have any questions, post it in ‘Ask the Professor’ forum

Here is your DB-9 assignment: Take values M, SD and P assigned for you in the table below and 1. From Appendix Table for Normal Distribution find z-value that has area to the left close to 1-P (P should be in decimal form). 2. In formula z=(x-M)/SD to plug your z,M and SD and solve for x. That will be score on the test required to be invited for the interview

 I am number 10.        380,  95,  25%
