Revision is Writing (Group Discussion #9)

At this point you should have fairly sound (by which I mean "reviewed and revisited, but not finished") drafts of three distinct pieces of writing. Two of these (your Self In Context and your Reportage essays) have already gone through one formal pass at revision and the other (your Lyrical Essay) will go through that process this week. There is no one best approach to revision—everyone has a slightly different relationship with the process. With that being the case, compose a discussion post that addresses each of the following:

1) How would you define revision? How much value do you place on revision in the larger context of creating a sound piece of writing (be honest)? 

2) What do you think about the perception of revision as tedious and the view that (especially in academia) it is very often just "busy work" or "a hoop" that we engage as a requirement as opposed to a means to an end (with the "end," hopefully, being a more effective piece of writing)?

3) Think about what approach to revision has been most helpful/successful for you personally. Briefly outline the specifics of this approach, highlighting why you find it helpful.

4) What do you believe to be the difference between revision and editing?

Your post length should be 500 words. Use MLA citations as needed. Additionally, respond substantively (200 words) to the posts of one peer
