To Kill A Mockingbird

In 1932, Atticus Finch is a lawyer. Atticus and his two children lived in Alabama Maycomb. One day, Atticus said to his children: “You can shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit them, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” Robinson became a symbol of diligence for his own life, and it has become a symbol of the pursuit of freedom and equality.

One day, the town judge asked him to defend a black man named Thomas Robinson, he was accused of beating and raping a young white woman Mayella. At that time, in the south of the village, common feelings or white on black had an ingrained prejudice, although the distance from the end of the civil war there have been three quarters of the century, but to eliminate racial discrimination, at least in the system achieve racial equality, there is still a long way. This bias is deep in the town's many black people; the direct performance is that they do not have the courage or no way to come up with a change in their own destiny of action. They can only rely on Atticus, but only rely on Atticus’ single handedly, if they want to fight against the long-standing real sentiments, doomed to failure.

When I started reading this book, I felt this book was boring because it is talking about the background of Atticus and Maycomb in the beginning. I was confused. Because my teacher requires me to read this book, I continue reading. Then I started to get into the book, and the story became more and more interesting.

Atticus became my most admired father. I admire the things what Atticus did and what he taught his children. Atticus is almost perfect in my mind. Scout is a town boy, she liked to fight and her acts liked a boy. In my opinion, Scout is a well-behaved girl because she would like to listen all her father said. Jem is a nice brother; he always takes care his little sister. In the end of the book, Jem became to understand Atticus. I think he was growing up.

I finished reading this book, and I think it is the best English book that I have read. It taught me a lot, such as “It is a sin to kill a mockingbird”. It makes me think that I shouldn’t do things what are good for me but hurt others. I did something like that before, but I won’t do that in the future.
