1. In Exercises 21 - 26, graph the function. Find the slope, y-intercept and x-intercept, if any exist.
Use some additional/different points than the solutions 2.1 #21 and 23 wk 3
f(x) = 2x − 1
Â
f(x) = 3
Â
2. solve the equation analytically wk 7 6.4Â #15 and 17
 log3 (x − 4) + log3 (x + 4) = 2
 log169(3x + 7) − log169(5x − 9) = 1 2
Â
3. use the six-step procedure to graph the rational function. Be sure to draw any asymptotes as dashed lines. #7 4.2
Â
 f(x) = ![]()

Steps for Graphing Rational Functions Suppose r is a rational function.6 STEPS
Â
 1. Find the domain of r.
 2. Reduce r(x) to lowest terms, if applicable.
 3. Find the x- and y-intercepts of the graph of y = r(x), if they exist.
4. Determine the location of any vertical asymptotes or holes in the graph, if they exist. Analyze the behavior of r on either side of the vertical asymptotes, if applicable.
5. Analyze the end behavior of r. Find the horizontal or slant asymptote, if one exists.
6. Use a sign diagram and plot additional points, as needed, to sketch the graph of y = r(x).
