HYPOTHESIS TESTING PROJECT LISTS

Final Exam Project

HYPOTHESIS TESTING PROJECT LISTS

Test to choose from with a single population:

"Proportion of students that prefer Snapchat to all other social media"

Below are simply the “basics” of your boss has come to you and has asked you the following questions. You are given NO other information.

MUST INCLUDE:

Pick your level of significance and clearly stating why you chose the value based on Type I errors.

Find your sample size, using the sample size formula and clearing stating all the pieces that you entered (up to you to decide on your error) This includes how I chose sample size, why what formula to use.

Explain why I chose confidence interval:

Explain why I chose z-test or t-test etc. (in terms of type 1 error):

Go through each of the steps of the hypothesis testing process and clearly define them in your paper.

Hypothesis test: (From number 5 above, these are the steps given from my course)

Step 1, Establish the null and alternative hypothesis:

Possible part of null hypothesis: UTSA students prefer Snapchat to all other social media

H0 =

Possible part of alternative hypothesis: UTSA students do not prefer Snapchat to all other social media Ha ≠

Step 2, Select a statistical test:

Step 3, The value of a:

Step 4, Establish the decision rule:

Step 5, Gather data:

Step 6, Calculate the test statistic:

Step 7, Reach a statistical conclusion:

Step 8, Determine (business) implications:

Notes from professor’s instructional video:

Says you will probably use z-test if you are doing proportions

Since we won’t know true population proportion, we will pick something specific

Information I have personally gathered includes:

Total number of UTSA students is 28,959 (if relevant)

Total number of students surveyed on campus was 31

Of the 31 students surveyed, 17 said they prefer Snapchat to all other social media

Of the 31 students surveyed, 14 said they do not prefer Snapchat to all other social media
