acid/base titrations and buffer solutions.

Hello,

I'm currently in CHM2046 and I need help regarding acid/base titrations and buffer solutions. I get really confused as to when I'm supposed to use ICE tables and when to use equations like the ph=pKa+log[base/acid]. I'm just very confused in general about what to do at what point in the titrations... If someone could go over the steps with me and help me differentiate what to use in which situation I'd be very grateful.
