Tv censorship essay

I have an essay due in 5 hours and its1500 words. I'm in a time crunch so I really need help.

TOPIC:

In considering the censorship of sex and violence, we need to balance freedom of expression with potential harms to people.  For this essay topic,  I want you to consider adults, rather than children, and I want you to choose one media form of film, television OR video games.

Using reliable scholars and thinkers to help you, present an argument for each side of the debate  (A) to censor  B) not to censor  Then in the third part of your essay, C) describe your position on this issue, including your reasons for supporting one side or another.

Essay Assignment

This paper should be 1500-2000 words in length, typed and double spaced. It is worth 15% of your mark.
You need to hand in both a hard copy and an electronic copy at the Turnitin link on our Moodle course website. Late marks of 5% per day apply.

You should make use of course readings and viewings, as well as articles/books written by scholars when relevant.. In addition, depending on your topic, you can also seek out and critically assess non-academic literature such as film reviews on online forums, podcasts, etc.
Google Scholar is a very good online search engine. If you are analyzing a film, you will need to watch it more than once.

ELECTRONIC AND HARD COPY SUBMISSION: You will need to hand a hard copy of your paper to me as well as submit an electronic copy to our course website at Moodle (where you have been submitting your response papers). There will be a link entitled ESSAY. This link will be open over the February break so that you can finish and submit your essay early to me if you wish. I would certainly advise you to submit your assignment far in advance of the deadline since March is the worst month in terms of assignments due in your courses.
Important Requirements of this Assignment:

PROPER CITATION AND BIBLIOGRAPHY: You must use proper citation of references both within the body of essay and in the Bibliography. Please use APA style for your citations and Bibliography. The library website has a guide under Research and Learn tab at the top. As you see there are many great resources to be found here. If you click on Research and Resource guides on the left hand side/ then “Footnotes, Bibliographies”/ and then the APA tab you will find a guide to this citation method.
I do want you to include the page number when you cite a source. Please realize that even summaries or paraphrasing of someone’s argument need citation!! Marks will be taken off for each faulty citation. Moreover, lack of proper citation can result in you being charged with plagiarism which has serious consequences, including 0 on the assignment! Please review what counts as plagiarism in essays by rereading the print handout at the beginning of the year from the Humanities Department, or by going online to the York website and reviewing the Senate Regulations regarding academic dishonesty.

THESIS STATEMENT: Your essay should have a strong clear thesis statement in the first paragraph of your essay. A thesis statement outlines what your essay is about, but more importantly what your position or conclusion is vis a vis the arguments of authors and/or your own analysis. You do not have to outline your reasons to support your conclusion in your introduction. It is in the body of your paper where you should explain the arguments of various authors and then explain your reasons for agreeing with an author or parts of various authors” argument.

PRESENTING THE ARGUMENTS: You need to present not just the conclusion of a thinker but the details of his or her argument.

PRESENTING YOUR OWN POSTION: I do not want you to express mere opinion. Thus you should NOT use the words “I believe”, “in my opinion” or even “I think.” There is an important difference between expressing mere opinion, which is merely expressing a subjective view taken on an issue that does not have any reasons to back up the said opinion, and an argument which after careful analysis offers a conclusion (your thesis statement) and reasons to back up that conclusion.

GRAMMAR AND PUNCTUATION: If you have trouble writing, then you should familiarize yourself with the writing support resources at the Writing Centre and ESL Open Learning Centre well in advance of when your essay is due. My two quick tips if you have difficulties writing proper sentences is that you should write in SHORT sentences and that you should NEVER use the semi colon.
Your essay will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
a) how well you demonstrate knowledge of relevant readings, viewings, concepts and ideas from this course.
b) how well you have researched relevant and reliable thinkers, selected important points and outlined their arguments
c) how well you have evaluated their debates and presented your own position on their arguments
d) whether your essay has a strong thesis statement
e) whether your essay has proper citation, proper grammar and punctuation

Some General Advice:
1) Present details of scholarly arguments, not just information. This paper requires focus and is not about just citing general information.
2) Referencing course material: A) Coursekit: If you look at the back page of your coursekit, you will find all the necessary information on the articles that you need for citations and your Bibliography. When you are citing the page, please use the page number of the original article and not the Coursekit.
B) my lectures or powerpoints, please use my name, the name of the lecture and date, and if you are citing the powerpoint, the slide of the powerpoint.
C) Referencing information for documentary films and movies the elinks we have used in the course can all be found in the online catalogues of SMIL (Sound and Moving Library) at the York Library website.
