Discussion - Beliefs and Evidence

In this lesson, you learned to look for an argument, fill in any missing premises or conclusion, and the steps to analyze an argument. You learned about evaluating truth, testing to see if truth leads to the conclusion, checking for relevance, and looking for non-circularity.

People do not easily give up ideas that they have determined to be true. You may have set forth an argument for yourself that meets what you have determined is true.

Discuss your experience when you wanted something to be true despite evidence to the contrary. Give an analysis of your poor reasoning in terms of the four tests and errors in reasoning. If you can’t think of an example from your experience, think about when you might have encountered such an argument.

Submission Criteria

Write your initial response in one to two paragraphs. Give reasons in support of your responses. Be sure to cite any relevant sources.
