Go to Yahoo Finance or Google Finance, download S&P 500 weekly value from May 1, 2016 to Apr 30, 2017 (use the “adjusted close” value). Then pick a stock from a U.S. company that you are interested in and download its weekly value for the same period. Use the data to answer the questions below. (We put this data below, no worries. )

Part One: Descriptive Statistics (We choose Apple, AAPL as our target company)

1. Provide a frequency table to show the frequency and relative frequency distribution of S&P500 values. Your goal here is to show for how many weeks the S&P 500 has been around certain value. Your group should decide the number and width of classes in your frequency table.

2. Provide a frequency table to show the frequency and relative frequency distribution of the price of the stock you picked. Your goal here is to show for how many weeks the stock price been around certain value. Your group should decide the number and width of classes in your frequency table.

3. Present the 5-number summary, as well as the average, range, and standard deviation for the value of a. the S&P 500 b. your stock.

4. Calculate the weekly returns for the S&P 500 and your stock based on the following formula: rt = (Pt- Pt-1)/Pt-1

5. Calculate the average (mean) and standard deviation for the return of a. the S&P 500 b. your stock.

6. Calculate the covariance and correlation coefficient between the S&P 500 return and the return of your stock during this period.

7. Make a scatter diagram to show how S&P500 return and your stock’s return moved together. Use S&P500 return for the X-axis, and use your stock’s return for the Y-axis. Comment on your findings from Part 6 and Part 7.
