Annotation Bibliography

Chavez, Jorge M., et al. "Collateral Consequences: The Impact of Local Immigration Policies on Latino Immigrant Families in North Central Indiana."Outside Justice.Springer New York, 2013.69-89.

The authors describe the criminal victimization and labor exploitation of immigrant communities. The role of the research is to re-examine and challenge the goals for immigration control policy. Contemporary immigration focuses on the movement of people across national borders as the fundamental issue of criminal justice. The immigration control policy has implications on social inclusion, labor economies, and community cohesion.

The source is reliable, credible and useful in my research as it raises the impacts of the local immigration policies on the immigrant families. The researchers also try to fill the gap between perceptions of the correlation between immigration and criminality.

Coll, Cynthia Garcia, and Katherine Magnuson. "The psychological experience of immigration: A developmental perspective." The New Immigrant and the American Family: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on the New Immigration 4 (2014): 69.

The researchers focus on international immigration and its psychological effects on adults as well as children. Immigration has been seen to have a negative impact on the Hispanic children. The article summarizes the stresses of migration from the child’s adaptation, adjustment, and development with time. The determinant factors are the background of the family prior to migration, the receiving community, the cognitive structure, and the coping mechanisms of the child.

Although the source is credible, the researchers have been unable to delineate comprehensive models and theories about the psychological and psychosocial effects of immigration on children.

Dustmann, Christian, TommasoFrattini, and Ian P. Preston."The effect of immigration along the distribution of wages." The Review of Economic Studies 80.1 (2013): 145-173.

The article presents an analysis of the impact of immigration on the wages of native workers. There is evidence that immigrants downgrade considerably upon the arrival in the United States. Notably, immigrants have lower wages in comparison to their contribution to the economy.

The article is credible and reliable as it uses a flexible empirical strategy to give a description of the overall wage effect of immigration.

“Impact of Immigration on the Host and Home Country Economies.” Boundless Economics. Boundless, 18 Sep. 2015. Retrieved 21 Feb. 2016 from https://www.boundless.com/economics/textbooks/boundless-economics-textbook/immigration-economics-38/introduction-to-immigration-economics-138/impact-of-immigration-on-the-host-and-home-country-economies-546-12643/

The article outlines the reasons for immigration that may include economic or political reasons, desire for change, and natural disasters. The benefits that the host country receives are the increase in the supply of labor. There are negative effects of immigration that include employment problems, national security, and population surges.

The article is reliable as it ascertains the ways through which immigration weakens the home country through decreasing population, lower levels of productivity, and a decreased level of economic spending.

The article discusses the effects of immigration on the Gross Domestic Product and the income of the US economy. Notably, the host economy absorbs the immigrants by job expansion rather than the displacement of the native workers.

The article is reliable and useful for future research as it ascertains the dynamic effects of immigration with time. There is also clear evidence on the impacts of immigration on the US’s economy that include the promotion of specialization, and the stimulation of investment.

Ottaviano, Gianmarco IP, and Giovanni Peri."Rethinking the effect of immigration on wages." Journal of the European economic association 10.1 (2012): 152-197.

The article gives a summary of the effects of immigration on the wages of the US workers that are natives. The researchers try to explain the substitutability between natives and immigrants with same education levels and experience levels.

The article is credible and reliable as it utilizes statistics to estimate whether there is a significance difference between the demand for the native US workers and the immigrants.

Solberg, Carl. Immigration and Nationalism: Argentina and Chile, 1890–1914. University of Texas Press, 2014.

The article gives a summary of the attitudes towards immigration of the European community. Immigrants were seen as elements that destroyed the traditional creole social along with the cultural values. The effects of immigration were demoralizing.

The article is useful as it provides the insights and the applications of the countries that are dealing with the problem of immigration and the assimilation of the minority groups.
