We can think through, “relive,” moments and periods of our lives in different ways, from different angles, with different emotions playing across the screen of our memory. We can also contrive to do this by dictating to ourselves what procedures we might use when writing about a particular moment. One of the most compelling arguments of Reality Hunger is that we write to know, or come closer to knowing, ourselves. Knowledge is multifaceted and multidimensional. We are more likely to understand something if we look at it from different angles, perspectives.
For this week's activity, write a short description about a special place connected to your childhood, some place that is important to you subjectively. Next, reflect on how the process of writing your description may have led you to a deeper or fuller understanding of why the place was special to you.
