My discussion question is :Â
Â
How many siblings to you have ? I have 5 Siblings 3 Brother and 2 Sisters.Â
What i need to know using the example below is:Â
What is the probability of having that many boys and girls on the front end? showing all your work.
Â
Example:Â
On this one, think about the following.
With 1 child, the P(boy) = 1/2 and P(girl) = 1/2
With 2 children, you could have BB, BG, GB or GG, so if you have one sibling and you are a female and your sibling is a female the probability is 1/4, but if your parents had one boy and one girl, the probability of that would be 2/4 or 1/2 since both BG and GB work.
For my case, I had two brothers. That probability would be 1/8 since 8 different combinations exist. Think about it, you could have
BBB
BBG
BGB
GBB
GGG
GGB
GBG
BGG
Only one of those is 3 boys, so the probability is 1/8
With 4 children, there are 16 different combinations. Why? 2x2x2x2 = 16
Hope this helps.
