Additionally, explain two (2) current factors affecting recruitment, hiring, or retention and describe how these evolving issues will impact recruitment and hiring.
Barack Obama” (Police Quotes, 2015).
Recruiting the most effective candidates toward a law enforcement career has typically been a simple task for many agencies, in the past, in the past, television, ideals, good
salaries, upward quality, and a predictable retirement program has lured many folks
into the human resource departments of the many cities. Receiving additional applications than
vacant positions has become the expected norm in most police hiring
effort.(Gordon, 2004).
Each state sets its own standards for hiring, training, regulation, and disciplining of law enforcement officers. Nationwide, the quality of policing in each community will vary greatly depending on whether the state has mandatory training standards, the community has the ability to provide competitive wages and benefits to attract qualified applicants and retain veteran officers, and the community has the Financial resources to fund a modern police agency.(DeLord & Sanders, 200.6, p.13-14).
Police pay, benefits and pension program is one of the fields that many states are trying to make improvement on them as they improve the living standard. Due to this there are effects that have come out and been experienced as well. Some of the effects are; they ensure that every police officer is able to access an affordable and sustainable pension which is available. This will help them work in a good mood and make pride of the work they do (Shulman, 2006)
Another effect is that being considered well in pension side, they will make their live fairer and more sustained over a long term, therefore no officer will be making decision of moving out of police department due to life being challenging. There are some factors that affect recruitment, hiring in police organization, one is lack of qualified applicant. Some of the applicant in police department has not met the full required characteristics that are required in the police department, therefore there is emergency of hiring another police officer until when there will be applicant with full qualified characteristics (Glanville, and Glanville,2011)..
Another factor is efforts of COPS and other agencies to increase police staffing through grants for hiring new officers, this made some department not to employ new officers but wait for the agencies to hire. This has brought some impacts on the evolving issues on recruitment and hiring. Most of the impacts are mostly brought by those applicants who have not met all the required characteristics of the police officer, this is because they make work not to be efficient and also make some judgments in the work without following work ethics. In short police recruitment should be well considered while being done so as to make sure that work will be down comfortably.
If the manager and union work through every step and can reach some agreement on a shared vision for a safer community, it will improve their relationship and open new opportunities to work together for the community. (Delord & Sanders, 2006, p. 162). The manager and union have a unconditional interest in an exceedingly more practical and economical law enforcement
agency. Joint possession and a shared vision is that the most vital component in cooperative law enforcement labor-management relations (Delord & Sanders, 2006).
