Accountability in a Police Department is there anything that can motivate those who do not wish to do anything?

Accountability in a Police Department is there anything that can motivate those who do not wish to do anything?

In every job the employee wants to make a difference, and that includes law enforcement, Police officers want to make a difference. If a police officer is satisfied and motivated they will stay with the agency they are with. Positive feedback about ones performance, and not having the individual do a task that is to challenging for them. It’s the supervisor’s job to assign clear, specific tasks, while officers are responsible for determining how and when the job gets done. (Flitch, 2014).Supervisors should use extrinsic and intrinsic rewards (Flitch, 2014). If a supervisor decides to use a extrinsic reward and need to do so thoroughly. The reward should be something the officer values, and the officer should not know he is getting a reward.

It’s the supervisor’s job to assign clear, specific tasks, while officers are responsible for determining how and when the job gets done (Flitch, 2014). You cannot prevent personnel problems, since people themselves are unpredictable but making sound hiring decisions and assigning workers to jobs that fit their abilities will greatly increase your chances or motivational success (Banks, 1997, p.104). Those who are unmotivated often have many excuses for not getting the job done. What can you do to motivate those around you?
