Through this entire course I think we have learned and explored several different point in the Project Management world. I think most importantly and effectively I have learned to master: 1) Understanding how to build, lead, and communicate with teams 2) Identifying methods for improving project communication and managing conflict and 3) Applying effective project communication techniques throughout all the core knowledge areas and the project lifecycle. To sum up all that I have learned in these areas I think you have to simply take what you know and have experienced in leaders that we have all had in the past and consider what you would have changed or liked to see differently in those leaders. We have all have leaders that did not effectively communicate with the entire project team or have maybe even OVER communicated some things. In this course I have learned how to give the information that is critical to the team and our success as well as how to manage what I present to the team in order to keep their attention, interest, and drive alive throughout the project.

I have never filled the role of a project manager myself, nor have I worked in the IT field as of yet I think the biggest obstacles that I ran into was trying to envision being in those shoes and making those decisions as that leader. I have been a supervisor and a team lead prior to this course but nothing can compare to the in-depth role that a PM fills and the vital role that being a true communicator plays in being successful in that job. However, I now feel comfortable facing those obstacles and look forward to them.

the biggest thing that I feel like I learned this semester is that being a leader doesn't just mean making the right decisions and being educated in what decisions you make but being able to communicate those decisions to your team and getting them to understand why you chose the routes you did is critical to getting them behind you with support and enthusiasm as well. You can’t do it all on your own and being able to communicate your passion for the project and your goals is just as important to your team as it is to you!
