Dave, week 3 discussion 2 Planning for Terrorists

 

The fusion center is responsible for collection of data, evidence, and information.  So, do you believe the local agencies can develop or investigate any of this information on their own?  Do you believe it should all be shipped to the FBI?  The limited resources of the local governments, I do not believe, will be able to gather the proper intelligence that establishes whether or not a possible national link exists in the information.  It is vital to prevent local terrorism, but even more so on the national level.  Who should oversee this program, to prevent abuse?  Do you believe an element of the local government, such as the District Court Justices, could prevent abuse on a local level?  I believe the local justices do prevent abuse of power and law enforcement force from becoming overwhelming and that it is based on probable cause.  This then means that whatever intelligence is developed and shipped to the FBI would fall under their oversight entity.

This confusion on proper oversight especially concerning localized terrorism can have a profound affect on local politics.  This can result in many changes in local management that will, in effect, change the direction of this fusion center.

I agree with your comments on the fusion center being open for oversight, but releasing all the information would be detrimental.  What are your thoughts?
