Why is the setting of the play Fences important? Make sure to go back to the introduction of the play and compare Wilson’s view of the European immigrants with that of African Americans in the same decade. In works of narrative (especially fictional and including plays), the literary element setting includes the historical moment in time and geographic location in which a story takes place, and helps initiate the main backdrop and mood for a story.
