One affirmation states that knowledge of the world is derived by observation, experimentation and rational analysis (2011).   Science helps us to solve problems and to determine the knowledge needed to solve the problems.  Observing the environment around us, using science to determine the hypothesis and come up with a rational way of the world in which humans live their lives.  The Enlightmentphilosophists emphasized the natural goodness of a person (Gutek, 1995).  Evil was not even in the picture.  It was derived when a human’s nature was not real, unnatural or irrational within the society.  The affirmation says that we learn by our environment and the world around us.  The Enlightment philosophy says that we are liberated by natural education meaning we can work off of inherent benevolent inclinations to be able to perfect a good life.  This would mean that life would be very progressive and the future would always be better than the past (Gutek, 1995).  The affirmation believes that we all have the ability to progress towards the highest ideals, therefore having the responsibility for our own lives and how it is lived.  The Bible states Jesus made us in His image.  We have dominion over the earth and the sea.  He created everything, land and sea.  Therefore, putting science in the forefront of helping us to solve problems through observation, experimentation and rational analysis is not the way of the Bible.  God tells us to cast our cares on him.  No experimentation is needed, but the Bible is all we need.
