INTRODUCTION:

General Purpose:  To inform

(When we build an informative speech, it is to explain or discuss or describe.  The general purpose is to convey knowledge so that your audience can understand the knowledge that you are presenting in an interesting way.)

Specific Purpose:  To explain to my audience about how to stay healthy.

  1. Attention-getter: (Tell a story; use a quotation; arouse curiosity; use a visual aid; state a statistic; see the chapter on introductions & conclusions.)

  1. Establish Credibility: (Make sure you include talking about yourself in relationship to the topic. You need to talk about your authority to speak on the subject. You must also include drawing the audience into why this topic may be interesting to them. Using the words “you” and “I” are important to establish a relationship.)

  1. Central Idea or Thesis Statement:  Staying healthy requires a proper diet, vitamins, and exercise.
