flgagement Proje_ct If you choose to take on this assignment, you will
choose to get involved in your community to learn
about our social world and human relationships. Each
student who is participating in this assignment will
invest a minimum of 3 hours in a community project of
the student’s choosing. There are many opportunities for service in our
community, such as food drives, homeless shelters,
animal rescues, fundraising events, etc. You will
submit a Service Learning Report to verify your
service, in addition to a 2—3 page paper following
completion of your service. Your paper will explain
what services you performed and a summary of the
sociological lessons learned during this experience (i.e.
how was a concept or theory demonstrated to you
while you performed your service?) To help get you started, here are some suggestions that
have been used by prior students (this is NOT a
complete list): Central PA Food Bank, Spanish-
American Service Association, Meals On Wheels,
Humane League, Brightside Community Center,
Habitat For Humanity, Community Services Group,
Tabor Community Services, American Red Cross,
YWCA, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Another online
resource is www.volunteermatch.org to investigate
possible projects. The project will be graded using the following guidelines:
- Verified hours served by student: (5 points)
- Application of Sociological Perspective: (5
points) < m m E
