As human beings, we have the unique ability to process stimuli (or information) on multiple levels. Aside from using our senses to receive information, we also have an emotional response and a perceptual awareness of events that influences our reactions. Simply consider how we view movies; although we are not physically in the space of the characters or part of their experiences of joy or pain, we relate to the experiences and stories, and we laugh or cry with the characters. Sometimes an event even triggers our own set of memories or physical reactions. Have you ever picked up a scent that triggers a memory? Have you had a feeling or memory about someone that causes you to treat that person differently? These experiences are distinctly part of human nature.
