Watch the video I put the linked (make sure to watch these 3 videos) I attached for writing a discussion for me. The discussion question is the words that colored in red. I also attach other people’s work (green color) here so I want you to write like this. 400~450 WORDS SHOULD BE GOOD. Now that you have read about development and watched the videos, what stands out the most about child development? What are babies thinking based on the readings and video? Base on the readings and the videos we watched, I personally gravitate toward the view
of Continuous Development. In reference to Kohlberg’s theory of moral development, I like how Carol Gilligan challenged and criticized his theory stating that it is based on “upper class White men and boys.” The more I learn about theories and theorist, there is a sense of elitism. Like most of the theories we have studied thus far, I agree with a parts of Erikson’s approach. It is really difficult to categorize individuals in brackets in stages of development, especially now, where children and their development is rapidly
changing because of technology. I feel that though technology benefits their intelligence, they may lack social skills later in life. On a more personal level and experience, I do agree with what Erikson said, “we must have a strong sense of self before developing intimate relationships with others.” For Gopnik’s lecture, what stood out how when she mentioned that out of all the mammals we have the longest childhood connection to our parents. I found it interesting that there is truth behind all this. For me culturally, being FilipinoAmerican, there is a strong parental attachment that still last even now that I am past my 30’s.
For me there is a high level of intelligence that goes on with brains of a baby. I find it interesting on how fast they learn and can teach themselves at a given time. It was interesting to watch the body language of the the boy playing with the block lights. His facial expressions and body language shows his cognition to decided how the box lit up.
I also found it great that babies also have the capacity to reason such as the juice experiment and the quarter experiment. What I liked about it is that it came natural to them and they did not over think their logic. 2. SECOND WORK IS WRITE A COMMENT FOR THIS PERSON’R WORK. The thing that stands out most to me about child development is that a toddlers brain is
already more than half the size it will be in adulthood. I understand that the size of the brain does not necessarily mean it has all it's functions yet but that was just really min blowing to me. Also the fact that we are born with all the brain cells we will ever have. To me, this means we are basically born with everything we need and nurture will be the one to guide us through finding the rest of ourselves.
I was very influenced by Alison Gopnik's TED talk about the thought process of babies. I
find it very reasonable to say that babies are constantly preforming statistics and deducing problems in their head. They don't really understand words and meaning yet so they are left to teach themselves through trial and error. I would also think babies are
very overwhelmed with thoughts and ideas because everything is new so they just have
this big curious cat inside of them.
