1-do you think Affirmative Action is still a necessary tool to achieve positive representation of women, minorities in the workforce? Do you think this has been an effective process to positively increase representation in historically unrepresented areas of employment 2-Let's discuss the difference between Affirmative Action and quotas: generally, quotas are discouraged and often illegal. The main reason is that quotas (absolute hiring requirements based on race/gender) would divide the American people--more than they are now--into ethnic-racial-religious compartments, determined by law rather than by any act of voluntary choice, and because benefits and penalties would now attach to those compartments. We would thus have the obscene spectacle of people trying to place themselves into and out of the proper categories to receive benefits and avoid penalties. People would try to advance on the basis of group membership rather than individual capacity. do you think the same arguments can be set forth for affirmative action (as set forth for quotas) -- why or why not?
