Using a topic from Part Two of the text, write a 1300 - 1700 word essay that identifies an ethical issue(s) and describes, analyzes and evaluates the arguments surrounding the moral question. This essay should be properly APA or MLA formatted, with appropriate citations and references.

 

NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

1. You may choose a different topic with the approval of your instructor.

2. You should cite at least 3 sources. One of them can be the text.

3. Submit a thesis statement. The thesis statement can be taking a position on one of the issues or making an observation about the issue. The paper will support the thesis statement. Here are some thesis statement examples:

Congress should pass a law banning abortion.

The abortion debate represents a battle between conflicting rights.

Congress should pass a set of laws that would protect the right to die with dignity and prevent abuse of that right.

The euthanasia debate is a classic case of religious law versus utilitarianism.

The gay rights debate is a case of individual rights versus religious views and traditions.

4. All papers should strive to address these issues from a philosophical perspective. Logical argument and scientific data should be the stuff of your paper. Not personal opinion or even personal experience.

The idea here is to think about ourselves and writing as we work on the essay. This reflection may help us write a better essay for this class and in the future.

 

1. Write down the steps (at least 6) to take in completing the final essay. (For help with steps go to http://www.anu.edu.au/students/learning-development/writing-assessment/essay-writing or some other source to read about the writing process). As you write the steps, Identify the steps where there might be a challenge for you and below that step explain what additional actions you might take to ensure success. For example, if you are unsure of the thesis, you might write that you will take the action of discussing the thesis with the professor, or, if your sentence structure is weak, you might take the action to have the rough draft reviewed at the Writing Center.

 

2. As each step in the process is completed, revise the plan, if necessary, in order to succeed in writing a good essay.
