videos on research methods and the scientific method.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmDvzlSrhRE&feature=youtu.be
This week, we read and watched videos on research methods and the scientific method. Identify
what stood out for you the most about research and psychology. What are some of the challenges in psychological research? After watching the video, do you believe in coincidences?
Watch the video I put the linked and write a discussion for me. I attach other people’s work here so I want you to write like this. 400~450 WORDS SHOULD BE GOOD. Identify what stood out for you the most about research and psychology.
The reading consisted of many information about collecting and analyzing data, but the thing
that stood out to me the most was how psychological studies can be much more difficult
compared to scientific studies. In a psychological study, when studying a human behavior, it is
not a quantitative data, so it is hard to standardize or measure what one is studying. However, a
scientific research must have quantitative data. So, though I understand the importance of the
studies, I can understand the skepticism some people may have.
What are some of the challenges in psychological research?
I think one of the biggest challenge a psychological research can have is its ability to replicate
the study and find the same results. Because not everyone thinks the same and acts the same, it is
very difficult to make a theory, or generalize a statement because it may not always hold true.
Like mentioned in the reading, it is falsifiable. A psychological study done in one country can
have conflicting results when replicated in another country because of culture and traditions. So,
it is extremely difficult to create a theory unless it is very general like the example in the reading
of how a living organism needs energy to survive.
After watching the video, do you believe in coincidences?
I believe in coincidences, Law of Truly Large Numbers, because the videos depict that the events
have to be coincidences. I think people are skeptical of coincidences because it cannot be proven.
Sometimes, things occur in such a meaningful way that I am left wondering how did this happen
at such a perfect timing? I see it often used to explain events that are unexplainable.
2. SECOND WORK IS WRITE A COMMENT FOR THIS PERSON’R WORK. ABOUT 5 SENTECES READ WHAT SHE WROTE AND WRITE A COMMENT.
The fact that in every true hypothesis there will always be an instance where a hypothesis turns
out to be incorrect is what stands out to me most. No matter how many times you get the results
you want there will always be one or even few instances where the results do not match up. For
example a vast majority of people have 10 fingers and 10 toes, it's so common, even a toddler
knows it, but there is someone out there who has 11 fingers or 9 toes. It's just weird how
everything has a opposite.
Researching psychological issues comes with a burden of deep planning; planning who you are
going to research, how you are going to conduct the research, and how you are going to interpret
the results. You simply can not just "wing" a psychological experiment. With all the planning,
you must also have sufficent time and resources. An independent psychologist might not have adequate resources for conducting experiments so they might also have to go through another
process of asking big associations or the goverment to help them.
After hearing about The Law of Truly Large Numbers in the video I don't know what to believe.
The man in the video kept saying things like "What are the odds?" Well, the odds are right there.
There might be a one in a million chance I run into Obama at the grocery store, though slim,
there is still the one. It was comforting to believe in things like coincidence and fate but now it
just seems childish. Life seems like just a bunch of random dealings and once in a while you get
a good hand
