most jails and prisons are operated by the jurisdiction in which they reside - but...there are many facilities that are operated on a contractual arrangement with a business corporation with an intent to maintain a profit - whereas this might remove a jurisdiction from daily operating requirements it does not relieve the jurisdiction of overall and civil responsibility - is this a positive for a local government? - is it an advantage for Correctional Officers and staff within the facility, in regards to efficiency, safety, benefits, and maintaining standards? - can a jurisdiction save money while the contractor earns profits? - what advantages versus disadvantages do you see?
