. Seven sections are required

Article Review (100 Points)
This is your actual review of the article. Seven sections are required, with the following
headings:
1. Background, 2. Hypothesis, 3. Methods, 4. Results/Findings, 5. Conclusion, 6. Constructive
Article Critique, and 7. References. This paper should reflect YOUR understanding of the
journal article. Do NOT plagiarize the article or simply restate the information. Instead, this
should be written in your own words. The object of this assignment is for you to comprehend and
explore current research.
1. Background: (5 points)
This is generally the information which led to the current research. Typically this describes
similar research and explains why the current research was necessary. Please include the
outcome of at least one previous study cited in your article that relates to or supports the
research article you are reviewing.
2. Hypothesis: (10 points)
This will be clearly stated in any scholarly article – it may be found in the abstract,
background or methods sections. This section answers the question, “What are they
expecting to happen?” You can use a quote from the article in this section, but please quote
appropriately using APA style, including quotation marks.
3. Methods: (50 points)
In complete sentences using subheadings below, please provide a clear written response for
each item.
a. Number of subjects
b. Method of selection of subjects
c. Procedures used & Description of “what they did”
d. What was measured? What were the variables?
e. How did they measure this?
4. Results/Findings: (10 points)
What did they find? Specifically note whether the hypothesis was supported or not. Be
certain to analyze all variables.
5. Conclusion: (10 points)
This will be clearly outlined in any scholarly article. If you are studying applied research,
include any applications which answer the question, “How could this information be used by
the general population?” If your article is a basic research article, what potential uses could
this information have? In this section also include what the authors indicate are the
limitations of this study and the directions in which future research in this area could go.
6. Constructive Article Critique: (10 points)
Provide a short paragraph in which you critique the article. Be sure to comment on the
following: a. Provide your thoughts on how well (or poorly) the article was written, organized and
understandable to you as a lay person (non-expert) and why you are taking that position.
b. Provide one suggestion for improving the quality of the article. In other words, if you
were writing the article or conducting the research, what would you do differently and
why? Be specific.
7. References: (5 points)
You will not need to provide a reference for the article you use but you MUST attach a copy
of the article to your written submission, along with a working link to the article (as you did
in your initial approval assignment). Failure to do so will result in your paper receiving a
zero. If you review additional sources/articles to aid in your responses to the assignment,
then you must include an APA formatted reference page with the references you used beyond
your approved article. NOTE: This assignment will take significant time to complete; it is highly suggested that you
begin work on this assignment immediately once the course begins, and follow through on it
throughout the 5 weeks of the course. If you have questions on the details to ANY of this,
contact your instructor.
Grading Criteria for the Article Review Assignment
Each Article Review assignment is worth 100 points. Specifically, part 1 is worth 5 points, part
2 is worth 10 points, part 3 is worth 50 points, part 4 is worth 10 points, part 5 is worth 10 points,
part six is worth 10 points, and part 7 is worth 5 points. Any Article Review assignment that is
submitted that does not include all seven sections in their entirety will not receive a passing
score: the maximum points for Article Review assignments containing less than the required
seven sections will receive 60 points, which is a D.
Formatting
Use a 12-point, Times New Roman font, with half-inch margins on each side, double-spaced.
Proofread all work; multiple spelling/grammar mistakes will result in point
deductions. See specifics below:
Point Deductions Due to Lack of Proofreading:
At least two spelling mistakes/errors: Automatic 11 point deduction; student cannot receive
an A on the assignment. A grade of 89 points (or a “B”) will be the highest possible grade,
regardless of work submitted.
Three to five spelling mistakes/errors: Automatic 21 point deduction; a grade of 79 points (or
a “C”) will be the highest possible grade, regardless of the work submitted.
Six or more spelling mistakes/errors: Automatic 31 point deduction; a grade of 69 points (or a
“D”) will be the highest possible grade for the assignment, regardless of the work submitted. Point Deductions Due to Lack of Formatting:
Any Article Review assignment that lacks formatting will receive an automatic 11 point
deduction in points; a grade of 89 points (or a “B”) will be the highest possible grade, regardless
of work submitted. Specifically, the assignment is lowered an entire letter grade due to it being
unformatted.
