What distinguishes a depressed mood from a major depressive episode

reference cant be over fiv years:

This week, you focused on unipolar depression and the related diagnoses of dysthymia and seasonal affective disorder, all of which lean toward one end of the continuum of mood. Sometimes, it can be difficult to distinguish between the variations of depression and the related diagnosis and normal fluctuations in mood.

While exploring these concepts, share your response to the following question:

  • What distinguishes a depressed mood from a major depressive episode or a major depressive disorder?

  • Research has shown us that there is a strong biological component to depression. At the same time, research has shown that people with depression have a higher tendency toward negative thoughts about themselves and the world. Do you think the negative thinking and the biological components are related to each other? Why or why not?
  • Which needs to be addressed first, the cognitive components or the biological components?
