A rule of law set fourth by the higher courts, based on past court decisions which becomes precedent for lower courts. The procedure (1.) establishes uniformity (2.) makes it easier for individuals & business to determine a maximum for a particular law. The courts of one jurisdiction is not bound by the precedent established by the courts another.
