The freedom guaranteed by the First Amendment and restriction of obscenity laws seem to conflict. What do you think of the current situation? Should there be total freedom in regards to obscenity? Or do you agree with the Supreme Court that obscenity is worthless speech and therefore not protected by First Amendment? If so, cite some first amendment philosophers or experts in the field to support your view. What changes, if any, would you make in current obscenity laws? Now wrestle with this problem: UNF hosts an international pornography film festival during the summer. Over three days dozens of “winners” of the best pornography films are shown on campus. Admission is restricted to adults only. But the local prosecutor decides to arrest and prosecute several leading filmmakers while they are here. What are the chances of him being successful in an obscenity prosecution?
