exposure of liability for the company

Agency in the business world is a way to limit the liability of employers for their employees.  Before a person can hold a company liable for the acts of another, one must first prove that the person was in fact an employee and had the authority to act on behalf of the employer.  I think it is a good thing for employers to offer internships to students.  It allows the student to obtain valuable on-the-job experience and the employer and the community benefits as well.  However, a lot of employers do not want to offer internships, because they fear that the intern will create liability by claiming that he/she was an employee of the company.  Also, if the intern makes a mistake, the company may end up being liable.  Let's talk about this dilemma.

How could we limit the exposure of liability for the company, so that they would feel more comfortable bringing on interns.  Be creative in your discussion of how we can make the situation beneficial for both the intern and the company?
