1-Madam Curie, a Polish woman who moved to Paris and worked with Radium around 1900. She was credited for her work with and about radiation. She also died from radiation poisoning. Then take Love Canal, in the 40's and 50's. The Hooker Chemical Company dumped its waste chemicals in an old canal using it as a land fill. After the canal filled up and the plant closed, it was all bulldozed and sold. Houses were built on the land; it was going to be a dream development. Later many children had cancer, birth defects, rashes which would not go away, etc., the EPA started to investigate. Before the love canal, people did not think of those toxic wastes; they were buried, gone. These folks had the knowledge of the technology, but they didn't weigh the consequences. Do we see examples of this kind of lack of foresight today? What is being done to prevent these "accidents" from happening again?
