Introduction:
Human Trafficking in the United States to Determine if Current Efforts are Effective
Trafficking in persons, or human trafficking, is a phenomenon that has gone on for centuries, but has recently hit the forefront of our attention again because of the ties to international organized crime groups. The new slave trade, as it is often referred to, where individuals are forced into sex or servitude, has led many foreign countries to be underground travel destinations (such as Thailand). However, this problem has now surfaced in the United States and is having a significant impact in areas such as Florida. Unfortunately, the crimes are extremely hard to detect and prosecute since victims are often extremely unwilling to come forward.
