Police Stress and Suicide Prevention Brochure Assignment

Police Stress and Suicide Prevention Brochure Assignment
Develop a Police Stress and Suicide Prevention Brochure to give to police officers. The
brochure will inform police officers of the issues and dangerous consequences of stress,
including suicide.
Brochure Content
The brochure should contain information about:
1. The causes and consequences of police stress
2. Specific information on police suicide
3. Suicide prevention and stress management solutions
4. Referrals to actual places for help or additional information
• It will be helpful to include some specific statistics. • You may include design elements of your choosing such as photos or clip art. • Your content should include material from lecture videos and readings. In addition,
you must include at least 5 additional pieces of information that you identify on
your own. Resources
Here are some resources to help you gather information for your brochure.

Brochure Format
The brochure should be 2 pages that can be printed back-to-back onto a single sheet of
paper (so the final product would be a single sheet of paper with material on both sides of
the page). Be sure to look at the other attachment for this assignment, which is an
example of a brochure given to police supervisors.
Use the brochure templates in Microsoft Word to develop the brochure (you may use
other word processors, but it will make your life easier if they have brochure templates). Here are guidelines for developing a brochure in Microsoft Word:

Grading
I will grade your brochure independently on a 10-point scale.
However, there will be an opportunity for extra-credit in the class based on this
assignment. The extra credit will be determined in the following 2 part manner.
Part 1 - I will send everyone’s brochure to their respective Discussion Group (so if you
are in Discussion Group #3 it will be sent to the other members of Discussion Group #3).
I will have each member in the group vote for the “Best Brochure.” Each Discussion
Group “Best Brochure” winner will get a 3-point bonus on their final grade in the class.
Part 2 - I will send the “Best Brochure” winner for each group to the entire class. The
class will vote for the “Best Class Brochure” from these entries. The “Best Class
Brochure” winner will get an additional 3-point bonus on their final grade in the class.
Saving and Uploading Your Document
Save your brochure in a .pdf format and upload it to WebCampus. To save in a .pdf
format:
On a Mac
1. Click File and the Print. 2. In the Print menu you will see a PDF button in the lower left hand corner, click
on this button and choose Save as PDF. 3. In the Save window that appears, type the file a name. 4. Use the following format for the file name: LastName_brochure (e.g.,
Lieberman_Brochure). 5. If this file will be used on a Windows machine remove the check mark from Hide
Extension. 2 5. Click Save.
On a PC
1. Click the File tab. 2. Click Save As. 3. In the File Name box, enter a name for the file, if you haven't already. 4. Use the following format for the file name: LastName_brochure (e.g.,
Lieberman_Brochure). 5. In the “Save As” type list, click PDF (*.pdf). 6. Click Save. If you have problems saving it in .pdf format, either use the “Help” feature on your word
processor or search on the internet for how to do it – Be sure to indicate which version of
your word processor you are using (e.g., saving in .pdf Microsoft Word 2011 Mac). 3
