International Crime Witness
Vacationing, I witnessed a crime in Great Britain. This paper explains what I saw and compares it to the US.
Demographic Factors\
The population of Great Britain is largely White (87.2%) with Blacks of African or Caribbean descent the next largest group at 3% of the population. The majority of the rest of the population is Indian or Pakistani. English is the main language; and nearly 60% of the population is Anglican, Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, or Methodist, with 4.4% of the population Muslim and 1.3% Hindu. The population itself is 63,742,977. The largest demographic group is aged 25-54, with 41% of the total population. The next biggest group are children aged 0-14. London is the biggest city, with over 9 million people (CIA Factbook, 2014).
The government is a constitutional monarchy and Commonwealth-realm, led by the Queen and certified by Parliament. The system of law is a common law system; it is the system of law that US law is built on. There are a number of powerful political parties, and the courts are broken into two types: subordinate courts and Court of Appeals; and the Supreme Court.
England’s Criminal Code
In England, the common assault does not involve active physical assault. Thus, the witnessed crime was likely an assault or an aggravated assault. Assault with intent can also be part of larger crime. Someone who has successfully assaulted someone has already donw assaut with actual bodily harm, but they may also have committed assault with intent to rob (were they going to take your money?), while if they attacked someone gay, it might have been racially or religiously aggrieved assault occasioning actual bodily harm. After the “assault with” part, the remainder of the charge gives us clues as to what exactly the details.

Imagine you are traveling abroad in your chosen country when you witness a local national committing a violent assault. The criminal is arrested and charged by the police.
Upon returning to the United States, a professor in one of your criminal justice classes asks you to complete a written report on your experience.
Write a three to five (3-5) page paper in which you: (Country is Great Britain/England)
1) Determine the pertinent demographic, social, political, and economic factors about your chosen country. (This is already answered)
2) Examine the manner in which your chosen country’s criminal code would likely view the crime you witnessed. Provide a rationale for the response. (This is already answered).
3) Choose two (2) individual rights that the United States grants criminal suspects, such as search and seizure, right to counsel, etc., and analyze the country’s perspective on each right. Provide support for the analysis.
4)Investigate the manner in which the police in your chosen country would likely treat the defendant. Provide justification for the response.
5) Classify the fundamental similarities and differences between the police culture in your chosen country compared to the United States.
6)Use at least four (4) quality references. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.
