Think of Internal Validity as being Inside of the Study. An experiment or non-experiment study is internally valid when the effects of an extraneous variable (a variable that is not really part of the study) is not influenced the relationship between the independent and dependent variables

and is not CONFOUNDING.

  • In other words, the study is internally valid when the independent variables relates (non-experimental) or caused (experimental) the outcome (dependent) variables.
