 now let's talk about personal references, many employers will say they want names and contact numbers of previous supervisors, co-workers, whoever. Unless you live in a small town, in which case you probably don't need names and contact info -- you already know what the worker is like -- you are calling a complete stranger to ask about the employee.  You don't know if the person you are talking with is a good or bad worker, responsible or irresponsible, a jerk, a pushover, or stealing the company blind and hasn't been found out yet. Hopefully you get my point -- when making a hiring decision -- why would you rely on the opinion of a complete stranger?
