mitosis and meiosis

This was my original question:

Name two (2) similarities and two (2) differences between mitosis and meiosis I and II. Next state three (3) benefits of genetic variation which result from meiosis. Which benefit do you believe is most significant? Justify your response.

This was my answer:

Similarities

They both consist of prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase.

For both sister chromatids are aligned at the metaphase plate during metaphase

Differences

Meiosis I; there are two cell divisions, the first and the second meiotic divisions

Mitosis II; the cell divide only once

Mitosis; DNA replicates once for one cell division

Meiosis; DNA replicates once for two cell divisions

Benefits

It allows for variation within a species leading to a larger gene pool.

It can provide resistance to diseases or other beneficial characteristics.

Variation in more competitive species than our own can result in natural selection that is better focused to the specific environment

I pick; It allows for variation within a species leading to a larger gene pool. that is, if the hereditary outlines of people in the populace fluctuate fundamentally the gathering has a more prominent possibility of surviving and prospering than a populace with constrained hereditary inconstancy.

Why is this so? Since a portion of the people may have acquired characteristics making them especially impervious to infection or tolerant of frosty for instance, or they may have different attributes that expansion their possibility for survival. In nature, the "fittest" people succeed and go ahead to imitate Darwin named this procedure "common determination." Suppose there's an episode of a sickness that undermines to wipe out a whole species. The more hereditary inconstancy there is inside that species, the higher the probability that at any rate a portion of the people will be safe, and will survive.

THIS IS THE QUESTION BELOW, I NEED HELP WITH TO ANSWER MY PROFESSOR IN A DISCUSSION.

ALL ANSWERS CAN NOT BE PARAPHRASED OR PLAGIARIZED. THIS HAS TO BE 100 PERCENT ORIGINAL.

Thanks for jumping into the discussion Martha. Why does genetic variation provide resistance to diseases? I am just curious about that statement. Are you talking about specific genetic variations and specific diseases?

Do you think that genetic variation in humans may still play a role in evolutionary fitness? Dr. M
