I was walking to my mom's honda civic after a prolonged volleyball practice when she told me the news. We had been staying with my grandma until my mom had enough money saved up to move into a new house of our own. Little did my mom nor I know that that time would be suddenly cut short.
My mom uttered the news, barely able to retrieve the words from her constant gasping for air. I was sitting in the car listening to the words that were pouring out of my mother's mouth, but I could barely focus on what she was saying because the only words I had heard her say were, "Your grandma kicked us out." A thousand thoughts were racing through my mind all simultaneously. "Where am I going to live? How am I going to keep up with my school work?" Being in the middle of my senior year and clamored by the amount of school work and application essays I had yet to write, allowed me to take a look at my life and realize that life never happens according to plan, and I wouldn't let anything in the way of achieving my dream.
I couldn’t help but fall behind in school, trying to find a place for my mom, brother, and I to live, moving all of our furniture into a storage, and not even knowing where my clothes were for school. I managed to catch up with the motivation that I was the first person to go to college amongst my parents and nothing could stop me from getting into the college of my dreams. I had always done so well in school and wasn't going to let a little issue get in the way of halting my hard work that I was going to make sure paid off. This has broadened my perspective to realize that everyone goes through things they aren't nearly prepared for, but that doesn’t mean you should give up, and I certainly haven't.
