You are the HR director of Cantor, Inc.

You are the HR director of Cantor, Inc., a firm that provides counseling and therapy services for children and adolescents with emotional problems. Some of the clients also have drug abuse problems. While there is no evidence that any Cantor employees are using illegal drugs, you are considering instituting a drug testing program for the employees because of the symbolic value of having the employees serve as role models for the clients. On the other hand, requiring employees to undergo random drug testing could adversely affect their morale, and comprehensive drug testing would cost up to $300 per employee tested. Should you require all employees (including yourself) to be tested for drug use? Does the fact that the firm is funded by financial grants from the state and federal governments affect your decision? How would you explain your decision to Cantor’s Board of Directors?
