Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964,

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, prohibits discrimination in hiring, compensation, and terms, conditions or privileges of employment based on race, religion, color, sex or national origin. The Supreme Court decisions clarified the meaning of the Act.  Griggs v. Duke Power Company (1971) demonstrated that selection criteria must be directly relevant to the job.
