PROJECT – MOVIE ANALYSIS 1
MOVIE PROJECT The objective of this activity is to critically analyze a movie that includes a portrayal of mental
illness. The required length for the assignment is 6 pages. The 1st page is the title page and the 6th
is the reference page; therefore, you will have 4 full pages of text. Your paper must include the
following:
A summary of the movie (1 page). Provide enough detail so that someone who has not
seen the movie can readily understand it.
A description of the symptom profile for the character. Indicate the specific disorder you
believe the character exhibits and point out how the character does or does not meet
DSM-5 criteria for the disorder. Your textbook is an appropriate reference for this.
Provide examples of the character’s experience of the mental illness. You may include a
few short quotes of his/her words and/or descriptions of incidents depicted in the movie.
Your response to the manner in which the person and the mental illness were presented.
Some questions to consider would be…Was the person depicted as scary? Was the person
looked down upon or made fun of? Was the person seen as unable to care for themselves?
Address whether or not the mental illness was portrayed accurately and support your
answer using your book and references.
Include at least three professional references (3 journal articles) in addition to your
textbook.
Check your paper for APA style.
