1) This article discusses women’s fashion and attitudes of the 1920s. Thornton reports that dancing and the Art Deco style influenced fashion. She says that the flapper dress became popular because it was loose fitting and flashy. The dress was also easy to make at home because there was not much shape to it. The “Mary Jane” shoe also became popular as well as the cloche hat. During this time, women smoked, couples stayed out late dancing, and women played tennis and golf and sunbathed to make sure their backs looked good in their backless dresses. It was a time of liberation for women.
