Running head: ABBREVIATED TITLE OF THE PAPER Full Title of the Paper in Title Case
Your Name
Southern New Hampshire University 1 ABBREVIATED TITLE 2
Title of the Paper Replace this text. Your first paragraph starts here. The first section of your paper is your
introduction. This section will introduce your topic and state the importance of it.
Literature Review
For a complete review of the required element, please see the Final Project Grading
Rubric. The grading rubric will be followed in the grading of this assignment. The literature
review is based on the sources you located and evaluated in the previous milestone assignments.
In this section, you’ll summarize the articles, including the design and methodology and
appropriateness of the design. Integrating your previous milestone assignments, discuss bias and
limitations with specific examples from the articles, and present any other factors that might
impact the credibility with specific examples. You’ll discuss the research methodology that the
reviewed sources used.
Additional points for this section would include noting how this bias would impact the
influence your research, how the studies followed the APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists.
This information would be linked back to your proposal. For instance, what ethical guidelines
would you proposal to follow?
Thesis Statement
This section is the brief summary (probably one paragraph) of the general topic and your
study hypothesis. For example, “I expected that X and Y would be significantly related
because…” or “I expected that participants in Group A would significant differ from participants
in Group B on Y because….”. Although you already summarized the articles in the previous
section, provide insightful context and specific examples about how your hypothesis relates to
published research with at least one specific example. ABBREVIATED TITLE 3
Method The purpose of the Method section is to describe your proposed study so someone in
enough detail that another “researcher” could reproduce it.
Methodology
In this section discuss the research design and method you use selected. Why is this
appropriate for your proposal? Be sure to incorporate course terminology in this section.
Research Participants/Sampling Frame
This section would describe the participants that you would select and enroll for your
study. As described in Milestone 3, provide specific information, such as the total N, N for each
group, and other demographics that would be applicable to your proposal. Additionally, research
can be biased if subjects are inappropriately recruited for this study. Where would you recruit
subjects from? Are there any inclusion/exclusion criteria?
Data Collection/Instrumentation
This section reviews the actual testing instruments you would use in your study. For
example, if you are studying self-esteem, you would specific which self-esteem survey you
would use. If you are using an apparatus to measure a physiological measure like heart rate, you
would describe the technology used to measure heart rate. The point is that this section tells the
reader how you are measuring your variables of interest. If you are using an ex post facto or
quasi-experimental design, how would you determine if the subjects belong to each group?
Protection of Participants
The goal of this subsection is to discuss how you would protect research subjects and
adhere to the APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists. This information can be retrieved from
previous milestone assignments. Incorporate specific principles and terminology. ABBREVIATED TITLE 4
Discussion Because this is a proposal, we won’t actually know what would happen in your study, but
we can take educated guesses about what we would find and why it is important. This section
will probably reiterate main points from your Introduction. Imagine that you are the reader of
this proposal. What would you communicate to the reader in terms of what you expect to find,
and probably more importantly, answer the “So What?” question of why this proposal is
important, interesting, and/or necessary research.
When discussing the supports of the research proposal, be sure to link the sources in the
literature review back to your student. How would those studies support your proposal? You’ll
also discuss how you would convey the results to your audience. How would you write these
results? Describe specific aspects of the research that would be referenced? For instance, if
you’re doing a between groups design, then you’ll want to note that it is important to look at the
difference between the groups (inferential statistics) and potentially look at the demographics to
see if the groups are equal (descriptive statistics).
Another important piece of any discussion section in psychology is to provide directions
for future research. Where could researchers go after reading your proposal? Would there be
other populations or directions that would be useful? This section will demonstrate your critical
thinking about your proposal’s potential limitations and how research can be
expanded/improved. ABBREVIATED TITLE 5
