Physical and Motor Cognitive Socio-emotional Family or Home Factors

Case Study Rubric Tips:
The case study headings are: Introduction
Physical and Motor
Cognitive
Socio-emotional
Family or Home Factors
Summary The three developmental domains are: Physical and Motor
Cognitive
Socio-emotional To receive the maximum of ten points in each of the three areas of Standard 1a. you
must provide all of the following in each domain paragraph: Age-related characteristics of the domain (from the text)
Examples from the child you studied
o Don’t forget to site observed fine and gross motor examples.
o For school age children, don’t forget to get a quote from the child or parent
about the child’s school performance or report card.
o Make sure that the wording in your paragraphs does not mix up the domains.
For example, make sure that you do not mix cognitive development
characteristics or examples in with the paragraph about the physical and motor
domain. In the first five paragraphs, give only facts, not opinions. In the Start Here module, find
“Case Study Information” and read “Case Study Key Assessment Directions” and
“Opinions versus Facts” for examples of facts and opinions.
To receive the maximum of ten points in each of the two areas of Standard 1b. you must
do the following: Give complete information about the child in the introduction. (For instance, do
not leave out the type of school that a 12-year-old attends and any sports or
outside activities that the child is involved in.) 1 In the paragraph about family or home factors, give information and examples of
how it influences the child. (For instance, tell how the child is affected by having
a mother who is stationed overseas in the Army. You can quote an adult or child,
but you may not give your opinion in this paragraph.) To receive the maximum of ten points in the area of Standard 1c. you must do the
following: Use your opinion to state what you think would be the ideal learning environment
for this particular child. This opinion is clearly stated in the summary. To receive the maximum of five points in each of the three areas of the Supporting
Skills, you must do the following: Reference our textbook in each of the three domain paragraphs. Your reference
should look like this: (Berk, p. 205). In the case studies for this class, you are
asked to only use your textbook as a reference; do not use other books or journal
articles.
Follow the outline of six paragraphs for a length of 1000 words.
Use only Standard English in your case study. The use of dialectic English can
only be used if you are quoting someone. Otherwise, if you are not using a direct
quote, then using street jargon or dialectic English will cost you points.
o Here is an example, from an introduction, of non-Standard English: “The
mother push education and reading to the children, the mother takes her
children to the library to get books to read and she also read to the baby. I
have chosen Crystal because I thought she would be a perfect candidate for
my case study due to she is just starting out as a toddler.”
o To rephrase this into Standard English, say: “According to the mother, she
pushes education and reads to the children. The mother states that she takes
her children to the library to get books to read, and she also reads to the baby.
I have chosen Crystal because I thought she would be a perfect candidate for
my case study because she is a toddler.” Do not use the terms: mom, dad,
pop, nana, poppa, or grandma in your study. Professional case studies use the
terms: mother, father, grandmother, and grandfather to designate family
members. Send your completed paper to HCC’s online tutoring service so that you are
submitting a paper without English mechanical errors. There is more information
about this in the Start Here module. Open the link to Tutoring Services. State your subjective opinions in the summary. 2 In the summary, mention your prior knowledge about children in each of the three
domains and what you have learned from observing this child. 3
