cultural differences in the antecedents of emotional response

According to Matsumoto (2013), there are no cultural differences in the antecedents of emotional response. The study that was conducted with 3,000 participants reviewed fear, anger, sadness, shame, guilt, joy, and disgust. All of these individual's had the same "triggers" indicating that there is not much difference in cultures when eliciting an emotional response. That being said, we have such cultural differences in roles.

 

Why do you suppose these differences are so tied to roles?
