Hello there, Doctor.melody!

This week we are focusing on the sensory systems. There’s a video here that goes into the structure of the eyeball: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0DYP-u1rNM The other senses work similarly in that they each have specialized sensor cells that transduce the physical stimuli (e.g. light, sound, touch, smell, taste) into a neural signal that it then sends to the brain for processing. Similar to how the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, the right side of the brain also processes the left side of the visual field. This video goes into more detail on how that works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aobWzlXIooQ

Questions
External stimuli begin a neuronal process from transduction to sensation to perception, which results in a response. 1a. Will a change in transduction, sensation, or perception create the greatest change in the response? 1b. Why is this so?
Â
Movement is controlled by the brain. 2a. Which regions exert the greatest amounts of control? 2b. What is the most significant effect of degenerative disorders on movement and behavior? 2c. Why is this significant?
Â
Did you have any misconceptions about how the sensory and motor systems worked before this week? If so, what were they? Alternately, did anything surprise you about what you read this week? If so, what was it? [Please include a scholarly reference with this DQ]
