Design and Propose a Child Care Center

Design and Propose a Child Care Center

Your instructor will assign you to a team of 6-7 members to complete this Assignment. Team assignments will be posted at the beginning of Unit 3 as an announcement in the classroom. The purpose of this assignment is to imagine that your group is a multidisciplinary team proposing the design of a state of the art child care center for children between the ages of 0-2.

Your team should use the Team Area (the orange tab underneath the Unit 10 tab on the left-hand side of the classroom) to discuss, collaborate, and work together on the Assignment. Please refrain from using e-mail, phone, text, etc. when communicating with each other; only use the Team Area within the course. Once team assignments are posted in the classroom, team members should check into their Team Area and begin discussions that will aid in completing the Planning Checklist (found in Doc Sharing). This should include discussions on which team member will complete which section of the assignment and who on the team will be compiling all of the slides into one final presentation.

After each section of the presentation has been assigned, the team should discuss the design of the state-of-the-art child care center. This should include discussion of the physical layout of the center and some of the activities the children will be exposed to by the professional employees. This child care center should meet the typical and atypical speech/language, physical, psychological, and cognitive needs of a 0-2-year-old. Once the child care center has been designed, each team member will contribute slides to a PowerPoint presentation describing the center and how it will address the needs of infants (as it pertains to their chosen section of the presentation). To provide a rationale for the child care center design, reference should be made to a major theoretical perspective in child development (e.g., Erikson's theory, Piaget's theory, Vygotsky's theory, attachment theory, etc.).

Each team member must select one of the following sections of the presentation to complete, and then create 3-4 slides for their specific section. If you are NOT assigned to a team of seven, then not all sections will be covered; however, each team presentation should have an Introduction and Conclusion.

  1. Physical therapist specializing in the typical and atypical physical needs of children between the ages of 0-2. Reference should be made to a major theoretical perspective in child development [3-4 slides].
